Do you need help?
With 60,000 courses in 900 subjects at 120 UK universities, it is perfectly understandable if you are confused by all the different options. If you are going to spend between 3 to 5 years of high pressure study, it is critical you select the course and location which suits you best. Although we have tried to give you lots of information, advice and self help on this website, we recognise that many parents and students need more customised help, especially those living thousands of miles away in a different country.
How do we help?
We have a panel of education experts, whose core competency is to advise
parents and students on the most suitable courses at the best university
for them. This service is geared up to remote communication and is delivered
by a combination of email exchanges, telephone conferences and electronic
reports. Many students have already been helped in this way by our experts,
resulting in successful course placements.
This special service is totally customised to your needs and is only provided
in return for an advance paid consultancy fee, which varies according to
the depth and duration of the advice.
The Consultation Process and two levels of service
We ask you to submit your details on an enquiry form and then select which
service you require.
Standard Service
After emailing us with your details, you will be given a mutually agreed time for a telephone conference with your allocated Consultant. You will be asked to telephone the Consultant at your own expense. Be aware that this first consultation will probably last in excess of 60 minutes and that you should use a phone line which is not too expensive and will give you an uninterrupted call.
The Consultant will most likely start to make recommendations immediately, but you will be emailed a report within 7 days, which makes suggestions on at least 6 courses - together with the university website addresses where you can access and download the course descriptions and prospectuses.
During this first stage you will be express mailed a copy of the latest book - Degree Course Offers authored by Brian Heap, one of our Consultants.
The next stage is for you to consider the report, research the recommendations and then revert to the Consultant with your further questions either by email or telephone.
The next stage is advice on how to commence the UCAS application process, complete the forms and your Personal Statement.
Your Consultant will give you contact details and times when you can phone to discuss your problems and concerns.
Premium Service
This service provides all of the standard services, but gives much more support from the UCAS Personal Statement stage onwards. The consultant will help you draft this all important form and also coach you in techniques required for any interviews or communications with universities.
If you do not succeed in your first course choice the consultant will guide you in seeking alternatives and coping with the UCAS clearing procedure.
The Consultant will give you access to his/her personal telephone line at reasonable UK working hours.
Duration
You are retaining the services of the Consultant for a period of anything up to 12 months while you go from start to finish of the degree choice and application. You can phone them at given times, when you have concerns and queries. Plainly you cannot have unlimited time, but the Consultant will let you know their availability and will do everything to help you to a successful course placement.
Consultants
We use three of the most experienced University Consultants in the UK who all have intimate knowledge of degree courses and are also used to dealing with international candidates.
1. Brian Heap
Brian is possibly the most famous guru on UK university courses because of his numerous speaking engagements and 3 very successful books. He is an ex careers teacher but for the last 30 years has concentrated on university advice and his book Degree Course Offers is probably the UK's longest running and best known reference work on the subject. Indeed it is difficult to think of a more knowledgeable person on courses. Brian has so many commitments that he can only undertake a limited number of consultations. Furthermore, he cannot do personal meetings unless you are prepared to travel to his home in the beautiful village of Broadway in Worcestershire.
2. Penny Bysshe BA (Hons) Cert Ed. Cert ICT
Penny is an education consultant with 20 years of teaching experience in both independent and state schools and in adult education. She is a member of an Independent Appeals Panel that hears Admission, Transfer and 11+ Review Appeals. Penny is passionate about educational and cultural issues and has in depth knowledge of UK and International education systems.
3. David Straughan
David runs a very successful consultancy on UK University course placement. He regularly puts on 'exhibitions' in countries from Lebanon to Indonesia. He also has representative offices in many Middle East and Asian countries. It would be difficult to find a person with more experience of helping International students and knowing how UK Universities treat their particular applications.
Cost
The Standard service is available to at a price of £523 + VAT to UK citizens or £576 (+ UK Value Added Tax of 17.5%) to international students not resident in the UK
The Premium Service costs £733 (+VAT) for UK citizens or £900 (+ UK Value Added Tax of 17.5%) to international students.
Note 1 - The enhanced price for international students reflects the considerable amount of extra time required to match non UK qualifications and experience to UK universities.
Note 2 - It will normally be the parents who commission the consultancy service, but the student who participates in the consultancy sessions. For this reason, we ask you to complete the application form jointly.
Note 3 - These amounts must be paid in advance before the service can commence. You can use our World Pay system to ensure secure payments over the internet. It is understandable if you have concerns on internet remittances either for security reasons or lack of knowledge of our organisation click here for information on payment concerns
Personal visits
The Standard and Premium services are designed to be delivered remotely by telephone and email. If you wish to be accompanied on visits to universities or have a face to face consultation, this will be charged extra at £100 ( + 17.5% VAT) per hour.
Please note that Brian Heap is particularly busy and is not normally available for personal meetings. If you wish to meet up with our other consultants, you must specify this at the outset of the consultation process.
Placements
Universitychoice.co.uk does NOT take commissions from universities and our advice will be impartial, unlike some other so called 'free consultancies' This is why we operate a fee paid service with consultants retained on an impartial basis. Many of the best universities will not pay introductory commissions to 'agents', which means that students will not be placed with them on a free service.
We cannot guarantee your acceptance on your preferred courses, but our Consultants will use their great experience to get you the best chance of acceptance. You may rest assured you will be given sound advice with honesty and integrity.
